Getting Paid to Surf the Net

Monday, April 16th, 2007

As a small business owner who works a lot in front of the computer, I have been paying special attention to ways to earn passive income from home.

One such channel is to do online surveys and get paid. The best paid survey I ever did was $35 for a 6 minute long questionaire. Not bad if you convert it into hourly rate; however, it’s not really passive income as you have to physically answer all the questions.

What caught my attention a couple days ago was Agloco. In a nutshell, it allows you to earn money while surfing the net. The good thing is that Agloco pays for your day to day web surfing - that make your earning truly passive!

Agloco is actually the same idea as AllAdvantage, which many years ago promised its users with payment for normal web surfing. It did work, and with my account with AllAdvantage and my then time moderate surfing activities, I was able to receive a few bucks per months. Then AllAdvantage went out of business. But I didn’t lose anything since there wasn’t anything to lose.

AllAdvantage was too advanced for its time; now Agloco is supposedly to make the idea a success, thanks to the far more wide-spread use of computers and internet.

According to some rather conservative marketing research, the estimate is that a regular web user can have about $15 dollars income per month from Agloco. Not a big sum, but you don’t have to do anything special. The amount can grow significantly if you can refer other users to sign up. I think this is sort of like a typical networking sales strategy - if you sign up using the Agloco link here you becme part of my network, and anyone who sign up through you bcomes part of your network. The only difference is that you don’t have to buy or sell anything. The “product” here is all the participants’ normal, colletive day-to-day surfing.

So your income will be higher than the average if you surf more than a regular web user, or if you can build a larger network. How much more? I don’t know. We have to wait and see. In the past few days, there has been tens of thousands sign ups - a good sign that Agloco may get it work this time and last. IMO, for a passive income stream, that’s the more important question.

The sign up with Agloco took me about 3 minutes. Very simple process, yet the potential of reward is pretty high. Since this would be truly passive income, I am not going to worry about it from now on :)

Should you sign up with Agloco? It’s up to you.

Cheers!

Losing Those Baby Fat - Week 4

Friday, April 13th, 2007

A brief update on the weight loss progress.

I lost somewhere between 3 and 5 lbs in the past week (somehow, it appeared that I gained 2 lbs today since I got up in the morning. Must be the hydration effect - 2 lbs of water isn’t that much when you think about it. That makes me think maybe I should set a specific time of the day for weight checking). Anyways, I am satisfied with the progress and, more importantly, I can feel the difference in terms of energy level.

I have been pretty strict with both the workout routines and the diet. Switched more workout to late night versus during the day time (for reasons detailed below); stopped drinking fruit juice (replaced with Vitamins and H2O). Successfully turned away some wonderfully smelling butter pecan ice cream offered by the son and the huby (both orchestrated by the huby, I believe :) ).

Regarding the workout - I have found out that it’s more effective to do it when the body is under stress. For me, late night seems to be the best. That’s when I feel totally worn out by all the day time activities and the kids; and since I eat light dinner, that’s also when I feel a little hungry. Workout under such condition seems to “burn” more fat.

It might not be scientific, but my interpretation is that when the body is under stress, it is more inclined to using the “emergency energy storage” (body fat) to meet the workout needs, especially when the stomach is empty. Workout with a full (or even partially full) stomach simply triggers the body to digest food and intake energy more efficiently. Since there is plenty of cheap/convenient energy source (food), there is no need to tap the emergency reserve (body fat). In fact, there could even be some sort of feedback mechanism that tells the body to convert more energy to fat storage, to prepare for future demand.

In fact, the “theory” is well supported by the dramatic weight gain during preganancy. The body is constantly under an  ”absorb and store” emergency state that it converts any available energy into fat even if one is not eating much. That’s also why people can still become over-weighted when there isn’t enough to eat, such as during the war or a famine.

Scientific or not, workout at late night works great for me -

  1. It allows me to focus on the routines.
  2. It feels rewarding - I know for sure that I am consuming energy; I know my stomach is empty; and I know the body has to “burn” something to provide the energy. That sense of assurance feels pretty good.
  3. It makes the hot shower afterwards feel even better than it sounds :) .
  4. I always have a great deal of time to rest and let the body to recover.
