That Little “Thing”
Tuesday, July 21st, 2009This story was told by daddy -
William is 7.
We got a huge trampoline from Ms. Ayala. William loves it. The only problem is that everytime he comes off the thing he is covered with dust.
The solution is to carry him upstairs, strip him and throw him into the bathtub.
One day, while I was preparing the bathtub, I noticed William standing and twisting in front of the mirror, studying himself.
Well, kids… I pretend not noticing it.
“daddy… can you give me a hint?” He hesitated and asked.
“Sure - what is it?”
“Do you see this little thing between my legs… ehh… did I have this when I was little?”
“Of course you had it…” I said.
“That doesn’t make sense…” he said, thinking.
“You know Daddy - Bella doesn’t have this!” he revealed the surprise.
“Oh, really?” I wasn’t sure what to tell him. Bella just turned 3.
“Yeah! I saw it - the other day she was in shower and she doesn’t have this!!”
“daddy - is Bella going to grow this little thing when she is older?” he sounded concerned.
“ehh… no… You see…” I decided maybe this was a time to talk about the boy/girl thing.
“You know, girls and boys are different some times… For example, girls like pink, and you like?”
“Blue, green and red… and purple!”
“Right.. and girls have long hair, you have…”
“short hair… and grandpa has no hair!”
“Right… girls love dolls and you love…”
“Bakugans!!!”
“Right… so that thing - it’s only for boy; girls don’t have that…”
“Oh, I see Daddy…” he seemed to be getting the idea.
Sudenly, I saw a strange mixture of horror and sympathy in his eyes, and he almost jumped up in shock -
“What!! You mean Mommy STILL doesn’t have it!?!?”
